Aldor vs Scryer

When you first reach Shattrath City at level 60 or higher, you are given a choice between two factions: The Aldor and the Scryers. This decision affects which rewards you can purchase, which quest lines you can pursue, and which faction strongholds you can access in Shadowmoon Valley. While it is possible to switch later, it is best to avoid making a haphazard choice. For Feral Druids tanking in PvE, the Aldor versus Scryer decision has almost no impact on long-term performance. The only permanently relevant faction rewards are the shoulder enchants, as all other items are quickly replaced.

Before you choose

Here are the only things you need to know before picking a side.

The difference is extremely small

Both factions perform nearly identically for Feral Tank PvE. The impact of faction choice is minimal.

Shoulder enchants are the only factor

Outside of shoulder enchants, faction rewards do not affect Bear tanking performance.

Late-game scaling favors Aldor

Once defense and crit immunity are easier to maintain, Aldor’s enchant edges ahead slightly.

Off-spec value

Aldor provides Overseer's Signet, which is useful if you also play Cat DPS.

Aldor vs Scryer

Neither choice is permanent, but your early gearing experience can feel very different depending on which faction you choose

Highlights
  • Greater Inscription of Warding provides slightly better long-term mitigation once defense requirements are met

  • Provides Overseer's Signet, a strong pre-raid ring for Cat DPS off-spec
Cons
  • Provides no meaningful early tanking advantage over Scryer
  • The difference between enchants is very small
Recommended by a small margin for long-term tanking value.
Scryer
Comparable optionEarly gearing flexibilityMinimal downside
Highlights
  • Greater Inscription of the Knight provides similar avoidance early on
  • A viable option if you already chose Scryer or prefer cheaper reputation
Cons
  • Slightly weaker long-term mitigation compared to Aldor
  • No equivalent pre-raid ring reward
A perfectly viable option with no meaningful long-term drawback.

Recommendation for Feral Tank Druid PvE

We recommend choosing Aldor as a Feral Tank Druid in TBC Classic. - Greater Inscription of Warding provides slightly better long-term mitigation than Greater Inscription of the Knight. - Aldor also offers Overseer's Signet, a strong pre-raid ring for Cat DPS off-spec. That said, the difference is extremely small, and Feral Tanks will perform well regardless of faction choice.
