Marksmanship Hunter (PVP)
Precision-focused ranged specialists who rely on lethal shots, Mana pressure, and burst windows to dominate PvP and punish opponents from a distance.
Talents
This is the standard Marksmanship PvP talent build for Arenas in The Burning Crusade. It is designed specifically for high-rated Arena play, where games are slower, Resilience is high, and victory is achieved through control, mana drain, and disciplined positioning rather than raw burst alone. Marksmanship is the meta Hunter specialization for serious Arena play due to its access to [Viper Sting], [Scatter Shot], and [Silencing Shot]. This build supports the classic Hunter drain-composition playstyle: exhausting the enemy healer’s Mana pool while denying drinks and safely applying pressure until the opposing team collapses.
Build Overview
This build focuses on maximizing control, mana pressure, and survivability in Arena environments. The core win condition revolves around maintaining [Viper Sting] uptime on the enemy healer while protecting it from dispels using [Hunter's Mark] and stacked [Scorpid Poison]. Unlike PvE or Battleground builds, this setup intentionally skips [Hawk Eye]. While extra range is strong in BGs, it provides limited value in Arena where Line of Sight, pillars, and tight positioning dominate gameplay.
Key Talents
Viper Sting & Improved Stings
[Viper Sting] is the single most important spell in Arena for Hunters. This build supports the drain win condition by taking [Improved Stings], increasing the effectiveness of Viper Sting and making dispels less reliable over time.
Scatter Shot & Silencing Shot
These two abilities define Marksmanship control. [Scatter Shot] allows for trap setups, peel plays, and reset opportunities, while [Silencing Shot] shuts down critical casts and creates kill windows during coordinated swaps.
Improved Revive Pet
Absolutely mandatory for Arena. Keeping your Scorpid alive is critical for dispel protection and drink denial. Against Druids, Paladins, and Shamans, a fast pet revive can decide games.
Deterrence
A powerful defensive cooldown against melee pressure. Deterrence buys time to reposition, trap, or peel and is one of the few true defensive tools Hunters have in Arena.
Clever Traps
Increases the duration of [Freezing Trap], giving you longer CC chains and more reliable control windows—especially valuable when coordinating with teammates.
Flexible Talent Points
Marksmanship PvP builds typically include one or two flexible points that can be adjusted based on preference and team composition. • [Improved Stings] is commonly taken for stronger Viper Sting pressure. • [Improved Concussive Shot] (5/5) is a viable option if you value consistent slows. • [Survival Instincts] or additional Survival utility can be chosen for durability. There is no single “correct” allocation here—this is one of the few areas where personal playstyle matters.
Pet Choice — Scorpid
Marksmanship Hunters almost always use a Scorpid in Arena. Scorpid Poison is not taken for damage, but for dispel protection. The stacking poison makes it significantly harder for healers to safely dispel [Viper Sting], forcing them to choose between removing poison stacks or conserving Mana—both of which favor the Hunter. Keeping your pet alive, positioned correctly, and active is a core skill for high-level Marksmanship Arena play.
Battleground Note
If you are primarily playing Battlegrounds rather than Arenas, [Hawk Eye] becomes a much stronger option. The extra range enables superior kiting, easier pressure on casters, and safer engagements in large-scale fights. This Arena-focused build intentionally excludes Hawk Eye in favor of survivability and control talents better suited to pillar-heavy environments.
