Survival Hunter (PVE)
Agility-scaling hunters who trade raw damage for deadly traps, control, and raid-wide debuffs that empower physical DPS and reward precise play.
Aldor vs Scryer
When you first reach Shattrath City at level 60 or higher, you are given a choice between two factions: The Aldor and the Scryers. This decision affects which rewards you can purchase, which quest lines you can pursue, and which faction strongholds you can access in Shadowmoon Valley. While it is possible to switch later, it is best to avoid making a haphazard choice. For Hunters, the Aldor versus Scryer decision is not particularly impactful in the long run. However, if you want to fully min-max your character—especially during Phase 1—one option does pull slightly ahead.
Before you choose
Here are the only things you need to know before picking a side.
The difference is very small
Hunters perform extremely well regardless of faction choice. The difference comes down to minor optimization rather than meaningful power gains.
Shoulder enchants matter most
Outside of shoulder enchants, faction rewards have little impact on Hunter performance.
Early gearing benefits
Aldor provides access to a strong pre-raid ring, giving it a slight edge during Phase 1 gearing.
Switching is optional
If you already chose a faction, there is no strong reason to switch for Hunter performance alone.
Aldor vs Scryer
Side-by-side comparison of early highlights, pros, and cons.
Neither choice is permanent, but your early gearing experience can feel very different depending on which faction you choose
- Greater Inscription of Vengeance is very slightly stronger than the Scryer alternative for Hunter DPS
- Provides access to a strong pre-raid ring option that fits into Phase 1 gearing
- Offers the cleanest overall min-max path early in the expansion
- Often more expensive to rush reputation due to higher demand for Aldor turn-in items
- The advantage over Scryer is very small
- Greater Inscription of the Blade is extremely close in value to the Aldor enchant
- Scryer reputation turn-ins are often cheaper due to lower faction popularity
- Lacks the strong pre-raid ring option provided by Aldor
- Provides no meaningful gearing advantage for Hunters
Recommendation for Hunter
We recommend choosing Aldor as a Hunter in TBC Classic. - Greater Inscription of Vengeance is very slightly stronger than Greater Inscription of the Blade. - Aldor provides access to a strong pre-raid ring that benefits early Phase 1 gearing. That said, the difference is small, and Hunters will perform very well regardless of faction choice.
