Aldor vs Scryer

When you first reach Shattrath City at level 60 or higher, you are given a choice between two factions: The Aldor and the Scryers. This decision affects which rewards you can purchase, which quest lines you can pursue, and which faction strongholds you can access in Shadowmoon Valley. While it is possible to switch later, it is best to avoid making a haphazard choice. For Holy Priests, the choice between Aldor and Scryer is fairly unimportant. Both factions provide viable options, and the overall impact on healing performance is minimal.

Before you choose

Here are the only things you need to know before picking a side.

The difference is small

The healing difference between Aldor and Scryer shoulder enchants is modest and will not affect your ability to heal end-game content.

Comparable alternatives exist

Other shoulder enchants, such as Zandalar Signet of Serenity and Resilience of the Scourge, provide nearly identical value.

Phase 5 rewards are minor

The Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration proc differs by faction, but it becomes available very late and is unlikely to impact gearing decisions.

Switching is unnecessary

If you already chose a faction, there is no compelling reason to switch as a Holy Priest.

Aldor vs Scryer

Side-by-side comparison of early highlights, pros, and cons.

Neither choice is permanent, but your early gearing experience can feel very different depending on which faction you choose

Aldor
Recommended
More raw healingSlight stat edgeBest min-max choice
Highlights
  • Greater Inscription of Faith provides more raw healing power than the Scryer alternative
  • Offers the strongest shoulder enchant option for healing throughput
  • Provides the better healing-focused Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration proc in Phase 5
Cons
  • The advantage over Scryer is modest and rarely noticeable in practice
  • Provides no major unique gearing advantages beyond the shoulder enchant
Best if you want the slight healing advantage and prefer to min-max, even if the gain is small.
Scryer
Perfectly viableEarly weapon optionMinimal downside
Highlights
  • Greater Inscription of the Oracle is only slightly weaker than the Aldor enchant
  • Provides access to Seer's Cane, a usable early healing weapon
Cons
  • Seer's Cane falls behind as gear improves and is quickly replaced
  • Offers slightly less raw healing throughput compared to Aldor
A fine choice if you prefer Scryer, with no meaningful long-term penalty.

Recommendation for Holy Priest PvE

We recommend choosing Aldor as a Holy Priest in TBC Classic. - Greater Inscription of Faith provides more raw healing power than Greater Inscription of the Oracle. - Aldor also offers the slightly stronger healing-oriented necklace proc in Phase 5. That said, the difference is small, and Holy Priests will perform extremely well regardless of faction choice.
