Aldor vs Scryer

When you first reach Shattrath City at level 60 or higher, you are given a choice between two factions: The Aldor and the Scryers. This decision affects which rewards you can purchase, which quest lines you can pursue, and which faction strongholds you can access in Shadowmoon Valley. While it is possible to switch later, it is best to avoid making a haphazard choice. For Restoration Shamans, the Aldor versus Scryer decision is simple. The difference comes almost entirely from the shoulder enchant, as there are no notable bind-on-pickup items from either faction that significantly affect healing performance.

Before you choose

Here are the only things you need to know before picking a side.

Shoulder enchants are the key factor

The shoulder enchant is the only faction reward that meaningfully affects Restoration Shaman PvE performance.

Faction gear is negligible

There are no notable bind-on-pickup items from either faction that significantly affect long-term healing.

Profession recipes do not matter

Both factions offer Leatherworking recipes, but none are impactful enough to influence this decision.

Switching is unnecessary

If you already chose a faction, there is no strong reason to switch for Restoration PvE alone.

Aldor vs Scryer

Side-by-side comparison of early highlights, pros, and cons.

Neither choice is permanent, but your early gearing experience can feel very different depending on which faction you choose

Aldor
Recommended
Stronger healing enchantClear PvE choiceBest long-term value
Highlights
  • Greater Inscription of Faith provides more raw healing power than the Scryer alternative
  • Improves overall healing throughput in raid environments
  • The strongest shoulder enchant option for Restoration PvE
Cons
  • Provides no unique BoP gear beyond the enchant
The clear best option if you want to maximize healing output in PvE.
Scryer
Playable optionEarly weaponMinor downside
Highlights
  • Provides access to Seer's Cane, a usable early healing weapon
Cons
  • Seer's Cane is quickly replaced and falls behind as gear improves
  • Greater Inscription of the Oracle provides less raw healing than the Aldor enchant
A fine choice if you prefer Scryer, but objectively weaker for Restoration PvE.

Recommendation for Restoration Shaman PvE

We recommend choosing Aldor as a Restoration Shaman in TBC Classic. - Greater Inscription of Faith provides considerably more raw healing than Greater Inscription of the Oracle. - The shoulder enchant is the only meaningful faction-based advantage for Restoration PvE. Scryer remains playable, but Aldor is the clear best option for maximizing healing performance.
