Arms Warrior (PVE)
PvP-first spec with Mortal Strike utility
Overview
Arms Warriors specialize in using powerful two-handed weapons to deliver slow but devastating attacks. Unlike Fury, Arms brings valuable raid utility through multiple buffs and debuffs, making the spec highly desirable in group and raid content. With the improved [Improved Slam] talent in The Burning Crusade, Arms Warriors become a fully viable PvE DPS option. Most raids will bring a single Arms Warrior specifically for the powerful [Blood Frenzy] debuff, which significantly increases overall raid damage. While Arms typically occupies a utility-focused DPS slot, the spec still delivers strong personal damage when played and geared correctly.
Strengths
Powerful Cleave Damage
Arms Warriors excel in cleave scenarios, dealing strong damage to multiple targets through abilities like [Sweeping Strikes] and efficient multi-target rotations.
No Mana or Energy Constraints
Arms Warriors do not rely on mana or energy. As long as they maintain uptime on targets, they can continuously generate Rage and deal consistent damage.
Exceptional Raid Utility
Arms Warriors bring multiple valuable buffs and debuffs including [Battle Shout], [Commanding Shout], and [Sunder Armor]. Most importantly, [Blood Frenzy] increases all physical damage dealt to the target, making Arms one of the most desirable melee specs in raids.
Strong Gear Scaling
Like all Warriors, Arms scales extremely well with gear. As weapon damage and secondary stats improve, Arms Warriors gain more Rage, higher uptime, and increasingly competitive DPS throughout the expansion.
Weaknesses
Extremely Gear Dependent
Arms Warriors rely heavily on weapon quality and secondary stats to perform well. Many key items—especially trinkets—are highly contested, which can delay reaching full effectiveness compared to less gear-dependent classes.
Weak Early Progression
Early in the expansion, Arms can struggle to keep up on damage due to limited access to strong stats. The spec improves significantly as gear quality increases.
Limited Raid Spots
Raids typically only bring one Arms Warrior for [Blood Frenzy], as the debuff does not stack. Additional Arms Warriors provide diminishing value compared to more selfish DPS specs.
Higher Rotational Complexity
Arms has a more complex rotation than many DPS specs, requiring good timing, Rage management, and Slam usage to perform optimally.
Races

Alliance
Human
BiSSword and Mace expertise provides a consistent DPS boost due to the prevalence of top-end two-handed swords and maces.

Horde
Orc
Blood Fury functions as a powerful DPS cooldown, while Axe Specialization offers early expertise value.

Human — Overall BiS
Humans are the best Alliance and overall race for Arms Warriors. Sword and Mace Specialization grants 5 expertise when using these weapon types, which includes many of the best two-handed weapons in TBC. This bonus is extremely valuable early when expertise is scarce and remains relevant throughout most of the expansion. Diplomacy accelerates reputation farming, while Perception is a strong PvP racial against stealth-based classes.

Draenei
Draenei are a strong alternative thanks to Heroic Presence, which grants 1% melee and ranged hit to the entire party. While not as impactful individually as Human expertise, this racial provides excellent group-wide value. Gift of the Naaru offers a situational self-heal useful in both PvE emergencies and PvP.

Gnome
Gnomes are the strongest PvP-focused Alliance race. Escape Artist removes roots and slows instantly, which is invaluable for Warriors in PvP-heavy environments. PvE value is minimal outside of niche uptime situations.

Dwarf
Stoneform is a strong PvP racial, especially against Rogues, removing poisons, bleeds, and diseases. PvE value is niche, though the temporary armor increase can occasionally help mitigate damage.

Night Elf
Night Elves offer increased dodge through Quickness, but the defensive gain is minor compared to Human expertise. Shadowmeld remains very niche and provides little PvE value.
Orc — Horde BiS
Orcs are the best Horde choice for Arms Warriors. Blood Fury provides a massive attack power boost on a short cooldown, effectively acting as an extra DPS trinket. Axe Specialization grants 5 expertise when using axes, which is useful early in gearing. Hardiness also provides valuable stun resistance, particularly in PvP.

Troll
Trolls are a solid alternative thanks to Berserking, which increases attack speed based on missing health. While powerful, it is less reliable than Blood Fury and harder to optimize safely. Beast Slaying is situational in TBC and Regeneration offers minimal value.

Tauren
Tauren offer excellent survivability through Endurance and strong utility via War Stomp. Their larger hitbox can provide niche PvP advantages. While strong overall, they provide less direct DPS benefit for Arms compared to Orc.

Undead
Will of the Forsaken offers an additional fear break, which can be valuable in PvP-heavy environments dominated by Warlocks. PvE value is limited, but situational utility exists.
