Frost Mage (PVP)
Control-heavy PvP spec with strong survivability and consistent pressure.
Gear & Stats
Frost Mage PvP gearing focuses on survivability first, while maintaining enough damage and control to capitalize on Shatter burst windows. Resilience is the core defensive stat, but Mages can safely mix in select PvE items to increase pressure without becoming overly fragile.

Stat Priority
Frost PvP Stat Priority
Resilience > Spell Power > Spell Penetration > Spell Haste > Spell Crit > Stamina > Intellect > Spell Hit
PvP Hit Cap
Only 3% Spell Hit is required to be hit capped against players. Because of this, Spell Hit is a very low priority compared to survivability and damage stats.
Stats Explained
Resilience
Resilience reduces your chance to be critically hit, lowers critical strike damage taken, reduces periodic damage, and mitigates mana drain effects. While not as mandatory for Mages as for other classes, it is still the most important defensive stat in PvP.
Spell Power
Spell Power directly increases the damage of all Frost spells and improves burst during Shatter combos. It remains your primary offensive stat in PvP.
Spell Penetration
Spell Penetration reduces enemy resistances and is extremely valuable in PvP, especially against targets with Frost Resistance Aura or Mark of the Wild.
Spell Haste
Spell Haste allows faster Frostbolt and Ice Lance casts, increasing pressure and burst. Its value increases in later seasons and should be re-evaluated as better gear becomes available.
Gearing Notes
PvP vs PvE Gear Mixing
PvP set pieces provide a strong Resilience baseline. However, Mages can safely use PvE items in slots like neck, rings, and one trinket to gain additional damage without sacrificing too much survivability.
Defensive Cooldowns and Gear
Because Frost Mages have access to Ice Barrier, Ice Block, Blink, and Cold Snap, they can afford slightly lower Resilience than most classes while still remaining difficult to kill.
