Retribution Paladin (PVP)
A two-handed melee DPS that uses seal twisting and powerful buffs to deliver competitive damage when supported by the right group composition.
Aldor vs Scryer
When you first reach Shattrath City at level 60 or higher, you are given a choice between two factions: The Aldor and the Scryers. This decision affects which rewards you can purchase, which quest lines you can pursue, and which faction strongholds you can access in Shadowmoon Valley. While it is possible to switch later, it is best to avoid making a haphazard choice. For Retribution Paladins in PvP, the difference between Aldor and Scryer is very small. Either faction will work fine, but one option does provide a slight edge if you care about min-maxing.
Before you choose
Here are the only things you need to know before picking a side.
The difference is very small
Retribution Paladins perform well in PvP regardless of faction choice. The power gap is minor and will not decide matches on its own.
Shoulder enchants are the only real factor
Outside of shoulder enchants, Aldor and Scryer offer no meaningful PvP-specific rewards for Retribution.
Consistency beats theory
Retribution PvP revolves around pressure, cooldown usage, and execution. Minor stat differences matter far less than gameplay.
Switching is optional
If you already chose a faction, there is no compelling reason to switch for PvP alone.
Aldor vs Scryer
Side-by-side comparison of early highlights, pros, and cons.
Neither choice is permanent, but your early gearing experience can feel very different depending on which faction you choose
- Greater Inscription of Vengeance is very slightly stronger than the Scryer alternative
- Provides more consistent damage output in PvP
- Fits well with Retribution’s burst-and-pressure playstyle
- Often more expensive to rush reputation due to higher demand for Aldor turn-in items
- The advantage over Scryer is very small
- Greater Inscription of the Blade is extremely close in value to the Aldor enchant
- Scryer reputation turn-ins are often cheaper due to lower faction popularity
- Provides slightly less overall value than Aldor when min-maxing PvP damage
- Offers no unique PvP advantage over Aldor
Recommendation for Retribution Paladin PvP
We recommend choosing Aldor as a Retribution Paladin for PvP in TBC Classic. - Greater Inscription of Vengeance is very slightly stronger than Greater Inscription of the Blade. - If you care about min-maxing, Aldor provides the marginally better option. That said, the difference is small, and Retribution Paladins will perform well in PvP regardless of faction choice.
