Retribution PvP talent builds in TBC are fairly straightforward — you want to maximize burst damage and control while still taking enough defensive utility to survive long enough to reach your target. The standard approach is a Deep Retribution build that picks up all major damage talents while grabbing key Protection utility for survivability and crowd control resistance.
Talent Build Notes
This build is designed to be consistent and easy to execute compared to more gimmicky variants. It keeps most of the utility you want for Arenas and Battlegrounds — strong burst, strong CC, and enough defensive value to stay in the fight — while focusing on the core Retribution toolkit. Key goals of the build: • Maximize burst damage through Crusader Strike, Sanctity Aura, and Seal of Command. • Maintain control and uptime through Repentance and Pursuit of Justice. • Improve survivability and reduce the impact of crowd control by dipping into the Protection tree.
Standard Deep Retribution — Consistent PvP Build
This is the default Retribution PvP talent build for most players. It is the most consistent setup and is generally preferred for solo play (especially Battlegrounds) because it is easier to execute and still retains strong utility. The build takes all major Retribution power spikes to maximize damage: • Crusader Strike for core pressure and burst. • Sanctity Aura to increase your Holy damage output. • Seal of Command as your primary burst seal. • Repentance and Pursuit of Justice to help you stay on targets and capitalize on crowd control windows. It also dips into Protection for survivability and quality-of-life: • Strengthens the effectiveness of defensive tools already available to you. • Helps reduce the impact and uptime of crowd control effects.
Reckoning Retribution Build (High-Roll Burst)
This build trades consistency for explosive “high-roll” burst. You take 5/5 Reckoning and still reach Repentance for extra control. The goal is to capitalize on Reckoning procs by stacking cooldowns, seal twisting, and (ideally) Windfury to create a lethal chain of extra attacks and seal procs. Playstyle: • Fish for a Reckoning proc, then commit hard during the proc window. • Seal twist aggressively (often replacing Crusader Strike usage with twisting focus). • Best paired with a Shaman (Windfury massively amplifies your spike potential). Why it’s fun (and scary): • When the stars align, you can delete targets in a single global. • Strong “momentum” kills in skirmishes and certain arena comps. Tradeoffs / limitations: • Less consistent than Deep Ret and more reliant on RNG + setup. • Works best with Shaman support; weaker without Windfury backing you up. • Requires tighter timing and better cooldown discipline to get value.
