Demonology Warlock (PVP)

A demon-focused spec that delivers consistent damage through powerful pets and strong survivability.

DPSPVP

Overview

Demonology PvP is best known as the SL/SL (Soul Link) build, one of the most durable and oppressive specializations in The Burning Crusade. Instead of relying on burst, SL/SL Warlocks win through constant spread pressure, powerful crowd control, and exceptional survivability. Talents like Soul Link, Demonic Embrace, and Master Healthstone make Demonology Warlocks extremely difficult to kill while slowly rotting entire teams down with damage-over-time effects. Warlocks fulfill two primary roles in PvP: control and attrition. Through Fear, Death Coil, Howl of Terror, Spell Lock, Devour Magic, and multiple curses, they dictate the pace of the match. Combined with Life Tap, Drain Life, Siphon Life, and Fel Armor, Demonology Warlocks excel at draining enemy resources while sustaining themselves indefinitely. Proper pet management—especially keeping your Felhunter alive—is critical, as losing your demon removes much of your defensive and utility toolkit.

Strengths

Exceptional Crowd Control

Warlocks possess one of the deepest control toolkits in PvP. Fear, Death Coil, Howl of Terror, Spell Lock, Intercept, Curse of Exhaustion, and Curse of Tongues allow Warlocks to shut down healers, peel for teammates, and control multiple enemies at once.

Extreme Survivability & Attrition

Soul Link splits incoming damage with your demon, while Fel Armor increases healing received by up to 26%. Combined with Drain Life, Siphon Life, Master Healthstone, and Life Tap, Warlocks excel in long, drawn-out matches.

High Multi-Target Pressure

With multiple damage-over-time effects available per target, Warlocks apply constant pressure across the entire enemy team, forcing healers into inefficient mana usage and defensive cooldowns.

Dual Magic Schools

Warlocks cast from both Shadow and Fire schools, allowing them to continue applying pressure even when locked out. Fire spells can be used to bait interrupts, preserving Shadow spells for control and damage.

Weaknesses

Limited Mobility

Warlocks have no movement speed abilities, making them vulnerable to melee pressure. Proper positioning and peel coordination are essential to survive against aggressive teams.

Dispellable Damage

Most Warlock damage comes from damage-over-time effects, which can be dispelled. Unstable Affliction discourages dispels but does not fully prevent coordinated removal.

Pet Dependency

Much of SL/SL’s power comes from its demon. Losing your Felhunter removes Soul Link, interrupts, dispels, and pressure, making pet protection a top priority.

Undead

Will of the Forsaken provides immunity to Fear, Charm, and Sleep effects, offering a major advantage in Warlock- and Priest-heavy PvP metas.

Undead

Gnome — Best Alliance Choice

Escape Artist allows Warlocks to break roots and slows, enabling effective kiting against melee. Expansive Mind provides extra mana and scaling. Best for: Kiting and control

Human

Human

Perception can help against Rogues and Druids, but offers limited value compared to Gnome racials in PvP. Best for: Stealth-heavy environments

Undead — Best PvP Choice

Will of the Forsaken is invaluable in PvP, especially in Warlock and Priest matchups. Cannibalize offers minor sustain between fights. Best for: Arena dominance, mirror matchups

Orc

Orc

Hardiness provides stun resistance against melee-heavy teams, and Command increases pet damage. Blood Fury is risky in PvP due to the healing reduction. Best for: Melee-heavy metas

Blood Elf

Blood Elf

Arcane Torrent provides a situational AoE silence and can break crowd control, but is generally weaker than Undead or Orc racials. Best for: Utility-focused play
